3.12 How much more can Live throw at you

That night Ryan put Rafe asleep in his own bed, not sure if it was to comfort Rafe, or to comfort himself. Ryan could not think about the idea of sleeping alone in that big bed. Not now he can still remember Satya's smell. The presence of their son is not the same, but it feels good to know that a part of her is near.

It is not until the next day when Ryan learns how hard life can hit you. Satya's father stayed the night as well, and while preparing breakfast the sink broke down. The reality of life continuing strikes Ryan, who had the feeling the earth would stop moving when Satya died. After all, how could it continue with his soulmate gone.  Feeling empty inside, Ryan attempts to fix it, perhaps with more force then is necessary.

With the sink fixed, but the remains of Ryan's struggle with it still visible on the floor, Boy looks at the clock on their alarm system. He can't shake the feeling he is waiting for something.

Listening to the sound of his grandchild playing with his new oven, he can't help but thinking how happy his life has been, and how his son seems to get all the bad things life can throw at you. He wonders when life will decide to give Ryan a break.

Looking down at his feet, he suddenly realizes what it is he has been waiting for. He knew this had been coming, he's been hearing Buddy's voice more and more lately. Not being able to contain his own illness anymore, has made this clear to him.

He just wishes the Reaper could have waited a few more days before taking him. It doesn't seem fair to him to have his family confronted with so many death, in less then a days time.

Ryan doesn't notice what is going on, until he feels a familiar chill going down his spine. He looks up from the instructions he is giving Madeline for Satya's funeral, when he sees the Reaper approaching the ghost of his father. Ryan can't believe what he is seeing, Satya just died, how unfair can life be to take his father as well. He suddenly understands why the Reaper decided to apologize to him the other day, he must have known he was coming by so soon again.

While the family questions the reason to take away Boy at this time, Boy gets down on his knees, begging Grim to at least tell them why he had to go so soon after Satya's death. All Grim can say to them is that it is impossible to change the order of which they have to go.

Having the responsibility to organize two funerals now, Ryan snaps, and with his wife gone, the only one he has to turn to now is Madeline, so he cries on her shoulder, while she does her best to comfort him.

The rest of the day is spend with crying, calling lots of people to inform them of the passing of both Satya and Boy, and setting everything up for the funeral the next day.

When everything is in order, they just sit around, with nothing to do, nothing to discuss. The house feels empty all of a sudden, and though they don't discuss it, they all know Madeline is going home after tomorrow.

The next morning Ryan is up early. All dressed for the funeral, he spends this quiet moments trying to figure out what is going to happen next. But with both his father and wife gone, he can't think of anything else but to take the best of care for his son. The rest seems empty and pointless, if not for his son, he could not think of continuing on like this.

Overcome by grief, he turns away from their pictures and urns. When he hears his son come up the stairs, he quickly tries to wipe away his tears, he has to be strong today, to help Rafe get through this ordeal.

When the guests start to arrive Rafe walks up to his father to ask if it is okay if he goes outside to play. He's having a hard time talking to his uncles and aunts when all they wan't to know is how he is coping. Ryan gives him a hug and tells him to watch his suit.

When all the guests have arrived, they decide to let Rafe stay outside while everybody takes their turn to say something about Boy or Satya. Everyone seems to have a hard time to understand what has happened in those few days.

At the end of the ceremony Derrick tries to comfort his brother. Ryan just stares at Derrick, not sure how to respond, but finally decides to skip the words and just give Derrick a hug.

While Madeline plays her last ode to the deceased, the guests start to return to their homes one by one. Everybody walking past Danya and Ryan to try and console them as much as they can.

With everybody finally gone, Ryan and Danya go downstairs to check on Rafe, who has crawled up in his parents bad somewhere during the ceremony. Madeline, who does not wishes to intrude, brings everything back to the way it was before. She had always known she wasn't really part of this family, and though both deaths has hit her pretty hard, harder then they should have, she feels at a loss as to what to do now. So she packs the last of her things, leaves a note for Ryan on the kitchen table, and walks out of their lives.

---------------------------------------------Notes and Out-takes------------------------

I swear, Ryan is blaming me for all this....

and in a way he is right, though I did not expect to see Boy die that soon after Satya, it crushed me for a while, I kind of forgot that he was already that old while working on the storyline for Ryan. Boy turned 96 days, he fulfilled his lifetime wish only just before Satya died. I had him level cooking, painting and charisma. That last one was pretty hard to do tbh, I had to go and make several new friends and relations before he was able to max it. But i'm quite happy I did manage to let him achieve it!
I had a storieline in mind in which I wanted to bring Buddy back, as a sign that he would be dying soon, but Buddy was glitched... After the last scene I did with her, she kept saying that it was time for her to leave, only to leave and pup back up at the lot. Only to go through the sequence again. So I couldn't continue having her in the story. When I checked the towns population at some point, I noticed Buddy in there, and also a child buddy apparently had, though I never saw her or the child around. The doll was sitting in Boy's inventory all the time.

The funeral itself was a disaster! I didn't plan on having one, but with the both of them gone, I wanted to. So I altered the living room, invited the guests and used MC to get all the guests to dress properly.....only to have them switch into their bathing suits right after and jump in the pool! If that wasn't bad enough, I also had several crashes while dressing everybody, which made me save after every changed outfit, which sometimes forced me to restart as well, because it would give an error 12 if I changed to much at once.
Then! When I finally had a fence around the pool, the waterslide in the family inventory, and all the other furniture on their roof.....all the guests decided to leave at once, because Angel Crist (yes, Derrick's wife....) organized a party for that exact same day! very considerate of you Angel.....and guess who was the only guest that didn't leave?? Right, Angel.....
So anyways, I managed to get some pictures, but there wasn't as much grieving and weeping as I hoped there would be...

And to lighten the mood, everyone made fun of Maddie, but come one maddie, who the hell dresses herself in a bathing suit on a funeral!:

  1. Oh, this was so sad, to see Boy go right after Satya.
And your funeral was lovely, even with all the troubles you had with it. I wish there was some way EA could make Sim AI understand situations. You can choose a wedding, funeral or birthday party, but to the guests it's all the same thing and they will inappropriately swim, get in the hot tub or go up into the bedrooms to read a book.
And your errors and crashes just made it worse.
But it's a great chapter, very touching and sad. I hope things get better for Ryan. And for poor Rafe.

  2. Another sad chapter, but also a good one. I'm sad to see Boy die. Poor Ryan. Gah, he is just having a really horrible week. =[

Although lol at the picture where he is blaming you. He's like, "Really lady? Why are you doing this to me? What did I ever do to you?"

I'm sorry your funeral didn't go as planned. I still thought it was great though. When I have to plan scenes like that, I just make a copy of my hood and add everyone to my household. It's annoying when you finally have everything set up and then they leave. I'm also so sorry about your crashes. I hope you get everything worked out.

  3. Boy! : ( He died about two in game weeks ago and it seriously broke my heart. Amazingly all 6 of the Xun-Crist kids were YA before he passed on, and Danya lasted only a day longer.

I totally agree on Ryan's face in the outtake photo. Sometimes sims do the same thing to me after a death and I start feeling guilty. "But guuuys. It wasn't me this time! It was EA's Story Progression! Blame them, not me! I'm soooooorrrryyyy."

Madeline's departure made me sad. I hope Ryan can pull it back together soon, and I can't wait to see who his second chance will be with.
