2.13 You did what?

When Derrick noticed his father cooking up an evening snack, Derrick decided to do so as well, hoping it would give him the opportunity to talk to his father about what's been going on in his live lately. Angel is growing quickly, and her mother has decided to homeschool her for the time being, so she won't be bullied at school. When Derrick finally managed to break through her ranting at him, the sentence "but you were gay!" popped up a lot, and told her he loved her daughter, always has and is going to marry her, she finally calmed down, seemingly happy that her daughter was not going to be stranded as a teenage mum with no future. Though she did threaten Derrick to tell his parents if he didn't tell them soon.

Ryan pretends to be working out, but feels there's something big going to happen. He's noticed his big brother has been out of hum for quite some time now, and he has also noticed Angel isn't dropping by anymore. He knows something is going on, and he want's to know all about it, and since nobody tells him anything around here, he tries to listen in.

Happy that his oldest son is joining him at the table, Boy starts off the conversation with talking about the little stuff. Derrick smiles, his dad just played the ball right into his court by asking him about any special relationships. Noticing the use of the word relationships, instead of asking him about a girl, Derrick gets a bit annoyed again, but sets it aside and takes a deep breath.

"Well ehm, yes in fact, I have been making out with a girl..." Boy looks up, "Nice, which girl? Do we know her?" Derrick looks his father in the eye, digging up the courage to continue "Yes, it's Angel and ehm to be more precise...I slept with her." Derrick almost spits out the last few words, while quickly turning back to his plate, afraid about how his father would respond to this kind of newsflash.

"Angel huh? That's nice." Boy says before Derrick's last word seep through in his mind, "You did what?!? You slept with her?!? Are you out of your mind! When did this happen and how?" But before Derrick can get in any comment his father continues his rant "and are you even aware of the consequences?"

Derrick turns red and mutters to his food "I do know now..." Boy falls silent, trying to apprehend the meaning of those words. "What do you mean, you do know now? Are you trying to say..." "Yes dad, I am, and for your information, we did not plan for this to happen, we did not plan on sleeping together." As Derrick continues, his voice grows soft, he never meant to disappoint his parents, "We weren't even more then just friends when this happened. And now she's pregnant. And don't worry about a thing, I've done the right thing you know, I've asked her to marry me and when we both grow up we will, and we'll take care of the baby together..."

As Derrick lets the words fade away he gets up from the table, not able to bare the sad look his father is giving him. Boy regretted his words the moment Derrick said he knew of the consequences. He didn't mean to go at the boy this hard. He just wanted to prevent stuff like this to happen, and to be honest, he just freaked out. He never even thought that his son was ready for this, let alone actually do it.

Ryan continues his work out, trying to make some sense of what he just overheard. He can't quite grasp why his father would be so upset about Derrick sleeping with Angel. But he knows what "pregnant" means. His teacher in school is pregnant, she's going to have a baby. But he never knew this could come from merely sleeping with each other...adults are always so vague when it comes to these sort of things. His mind goes back to that one evening, where he fell asleep in their playtower with Sirra. Ryan stops dead on the floor..."oh no! Sirra!" He shouts through the livingroom "Sirra, where are you?!?"

As he starts to run towards their bedroom in the hope he can find her, his mother stops him. "What are you yelling for? You can find your sister without yelling you know." She says, raising her eyebrows. "Oh mum! Sirra is pregnant! I've gotta find her to tell her!"

"She's what?" Danya always knew her second son had a flair for drama, but this was getting ridiculous.
"We slept together mum, in the playtower remember? You and dad woke us up and brought us to bed...and when you sleep together, the girl gets pregnant! So I have to tell Sirra she is pregnant!" Ryan tries to explain to his mum.

"Whoah!" Danya says, "Hold you're horses little mister drama. Sirra is NOT pregnant. First of all, she is to young, second of all, you do have to do a bit more then just sleeping with a girl to get her pregnant. But that's for when you grow up, not now...Now tell me, where did you get this idea?

Ryan looks down at his feet, then back up to his mum, spreads his hands in ignorance and said "I overheard Derrick telling dad he slept with Angel and that she is pregnant..." Watching his mothers face, he notices its starting to look quite pale. "Are you mad at me?"

"No Ryan, I'm not mad at you," Danya says while giving Ryan a big hug, "do me a favor and go find your uncle Lee, your sister and baby brothers and take them outside to play please..."

As Ryan runs off to do so, she turns and walks to the bedroom of her children, shooing everybody who is in their outside, she finds her oldest son, sobbing in his bed and her husband standing around the corner, not sure what to say or how to act.
"You yelled at him? Didn't you?"  Danya asks Boy softly, so Derrick wouldn't hear. Boy hangs his head down and tears fill his eyes, "Yes I did, I did what I promised myself I would never ever do, I yelled at him like my parents used to yell at me...and now I don't know what to say to make it better." And as Danya pulls him in for a hug she whispers in his ear "you've never yelled at one of children before, you're not at all like your parents."

He pulls back a bit "How come you know?" he asks Danya, and as she smiles at him, she explains "you should really pay attention to your surroundings for such conversations, your second son was eavesdropping your conversation, but I'll tell you about that later, let's go talk to our son...grandpa!" Boy is not sure at the sound of that but as Danya pulls up a chair near Derricks bed, he stands beside her against the wall.

"Go away!" Derrick is not happy to see his dad, but that his mum is there as well makes it even more harder. He hadn't been able to make out what they were saying, but he heard them mumbling just under a minute ago, "I don't want to talk about it."
"Derrick love" Danya begins, "we do need to talk about this, this won't go away you know."

"I know!" Derrick is getting frustrated, "it's how it is, what else is there to talk about? Can't you just leave me alone?"

"No we can't," Danya responds with sadness in her eyes, "you are our son, and we love you, we don't want you to have to do this on your own." As she looks up to Boy to get him to say something, Derrick lays down his head and starts to cry, "I'd think you would be mad at me, or embarrassed, dad is mad..."
Boy interrupts, trying to keep the tears from his voice, "no son, I am not mad at you, I was mad at myself for not talking about this sort of stuff with you earlier," Boy shakes his head in dismay, "and I shouldn't have yelled at you...I'd have been better of yelling at myself..."

"So have you discussed this with Angel yet?" Danya asks her son. "Yes, and I have asked her to marry me when we are young adults. Her mother agrees, though they will keep the baby with her until I am able to move out and take care of Angel and...the baby" Derrick still finds it hard to think about the baby, it all seems so surreal. "Do you love her?" Boy asks, "we wouldn't want you to get caught up in a marriage with someone you don't love, it's not abnormal anymore to raise a child while the parents aren't together."
"Oh, but I do, I love Angel, and we might not have planned to sleep together, but I loved her ever since we were children..." Boy and Danya give each other a look as to say "that explains a whole deal". Derrick notices that look "Oh come on! Not you two as well! I'm not gay! I've never been into boys either!"

With that exclamation breaking the tension in the room a bit, they continue to talk about the situation until Lee knocks on the door, "Is it okay for us to come back in? It's getting late and well, the children are nearly falling of their feet." Derrick is getting up from his bed, as Danya gets up from her chair, gives Derrick a kiss on his forehead and then leaves to take care of the other children.

Boy grabs his son by the arm and pulls him in for a hug. "No matter what you do son, I'll always love you, and we'll get through this together." Derrick grabs his father tight, not knowing what to say, but relieved that all is out in the open now.

----------------------------------------------Notes--------------------------------------------

Right.........I'm not sure where that came from, I didn't plan on writing this, but it just came, and before I knew it, I found myself setting stuff up, using alternate saves etc, to get the right pictures to go along with it.

As to the reaction of Boy and Danya, I don't think most people that are in this kind of situation will get a response like this. I have worked with teenage mums and I know for a fact that most of them don't get a reaction like this. I do think however, that I am blessed with my own parents, and I tend to think they would have reacted like this if i had gotten pregnant when I was a teenager (not an entirely surreal picture tbh...I had a conversation like this when my mum found out I was sleeping with my boyfriend and made me go get the pill :)), but perhaps i'm just romanticizing stuff :P.
Also, if my daughter  would ever get into this kind of trouble as a teenager (I sure hope not and I am very happy it is still many many years before it can happen), I hope I can find the strength in myself to react like that, and be there for her.

So no birthdays this chapter, but next chapter they will be! It will probably even be lame cause it will be a filler upper again.

  1. I love Ryan's reaction, that was hilarious.

I'll be honest, the whole 'teenage pregnancy' theme is one I have a hard time with. Back in the Sims 2 era, the Sim world was full of stories of 'Teen Preggers!!oneone!' played up for all the drama it was worth. Overplayed most of the time. So when I see one coming, my first instinct is to just roll my eyes. But that said, you are doing a very good job with it. I didn't roll my eyes once.

  2. Thanks :D

and I just had to add Ryan in there...he's been not getting enough attention in the story so far, being the heir and all *blushes*

and to comfort you :) i'm not going to do it again :P i'm turning teen pregnancies off right now (that was possible right?) haha, cause this one wasn't even planned by me :) (starting to have second thoughts about replacing woohoo with risky....)

  3. I used to use a risky woohoo mod for Sims 2, so my Pleasure and Romance Sims might have to face the unintended consequences of their actions.
But for this challenge, I wouldn't use one. Not that you aren't allowed or anything, but it would complicate things too much for me.

  4. I haven't played sims 2 for to long to even remember pleasure and romance sims are, but I do get the picture.

It can complicate things in this legacy, that's for sure, but I like the pop-ups every now and then about townies getting pregnant due to software errors or what not :). But I might turn it off indeed, cause it might as well reduce the amount of children that are born in my town...

  5. I'm glad Danya managed to calm everything down in that house <3. Boy's a good father, and its sad when he doubts himself. But I'm happy but he and Danya were there for Derrick when he needed them. And Ryan's reaction was just pure adorable.

  6. The 'software failures' for townies are from the story progression mod, as long as you have unexpected pregnancy enabled. That is separate from risky woohoo for your playable Sims.

  7. oh really? is there a difference between those? ah, well then I will search no longer for the disabling of teenage pregnancy, i'll just turn of the risky :)

  9. That was a really well done reaction to a teenage pregnancy, enough shock to seem real but also enough loving acceptance to be happy :)

  11. This is pretty much how it went down when my brother cam home with the news that he'd knocked up his high school girlfriend. I mean, what else can a parent do at that point but be supportive? I think you played it very well.

And the Ryan stuff was totally hilarious!!!
